Creating a TUNE Link

TUNE links, also known as measurement URLs or tracking links, are the primary mechanism for initiating a measurement session in Attribution Analytics. TUNE links send data at the time of a click, and redirect users to a specified destination.

About TUNE Links

TUNE links are used to measure clicks and impressions. The form and function of TUNE links vary based on the type of experience you want your users to have. TUNE links are used for the purposes of both user acquisition (acquiring new users) and re-engagement (engaging existing users).

Depending on your goals, you can have your TUNE link redirect users to the app store or straight into your app. Attribution Analytics detects whether a user has the app installed or not, then forwards them to the appropriate place based on your settings using a provided destination URL, deep link, or both:

Create a TUNE Link

You can create a TUNE link from several places in Attribution Analytics—from Partners, Apps, Campaigns, and the TUNE Links tab. The creation process is the same, no matter where you start:

  1. Click the Create a TUNE Link button.
  2. (Optional) Name your TUNE link at the top of the page. If you skip this, Attribution Analytics automatically generates a name.
  3. Select the Partner for whom you are creating this TUNE link.
    • Note: If your partner has a TUNE link template set up in the TUNE Partner Center, then that template will be used below. Changing the selected partner resets any values in the Data Collection section.
  4. Set up Apps & Routing settings:
    1. Select one or more apps to associate with this TUNE link.
    2. For each app, click the Edit button to configure the routing logic. Here, you can select or manually enter destination URLs and deep links.
  5. (Optional) Specify other Data Collection settings:
    • Use the Parameter dropdown menu to select a parameter to include.
    • Use the Value box to enter the parameter’s value or macro to be resolved on click.
  6. To store this TUNE link for faster access later, click Save.

As you make selections, Attribution Analytics appends and highlights new or changed parameters in your TUNE link at the bottom of the page. You can copy and distribute the displayed TUNE link to your advertising partner once you’re comfortable with the selected TUNE link settings.

Data Collection Parameters

On the Create a TUNE Link page, the Data Collection section contains only some of the most commonly used parameters for campaign optimization. For those parameters, use the Value field to enter values you want to store, macros from your partner’s measurement system, or placeholder values for your partner to later replace:

Configuring Defaults

If you configure the same data collection parameters across different campaigns with the same partner, it can be helpful to set default parameters that populate automatically each time you create a TUNE link for that partner. Android App Links & iOS Universal Links

In addition to providing robust cross-platform measurement via the default routing options, TUNE links support both iOS Universal Link and Android App Link functionality. When using Universal Links or App Links, there are a few key changes to be aware of:

  • Universal Links and App Links interact poorly with URL shorteners and some email clients. If you plan to wrap or shorten your TUNE link URL, check the “Route all users through bridge page” box in the TUNE Link section when creating your link. This setting ensures proper routing by directing users to the bridge page.
  • If routing for a Universal Link-enabled or App Link-enabled TUNE link fails to take a user into the app, users will be taken to your destination URL instead. This behavior is ignored if the above bridge page setting is enabled.

“Where will my TUNE link take users?”

When setting up a TUNE link, you may wonder how specific settings and conditions interact to affect a user’s routing. In the table below, each row represents a possible routing scenario, described by the following settings and conditions which lead to that behavior:

  • ULs set up & enabled: iOS Universal Links are set up in the app and enabled in Attribution Analytics
  • ALs set up & enabled: Android App Links are set up in the app and enabled in Attribution Analytics
  • “Route all users through bridge page”: Checkbox setting on the Create TUNE link page
  • Deep link included: TUNE link routing settings include a deep link
  • Link clicked directly?: Whether or not the user clicks TUNE link directly. Links are not clicked directly when a service (like TinyURL) is used to wrap or shorten the link

Use the menu below to display only conditions which lead to your selected routing behavior.

    Hi. is it possible to track the web? can`t find that function where i can. please add to descriptions, track in Web !

      Hi J, thanks for asking! In the Apps & Routing section of the page next to "Add Another App", you can find "Web" as an option. Keep in mind that you'll need to have at least one app added as "Web" for this option to appear.
