Cohort Report Overview

The cohort report in Attribution Analytics allows you to analyze your data by install date and see how those users (per unique device) performed over time. As a tool used to separate growth metrics from engagement metrics, cohort analysis allows you to evaluate user behavior over time including lifetime value (LTV).

This article is part of our Popular Features series.

Data Requirements

In order for the cohort report to provide insights, you must be measuring in-app events with TUNE. In-app events are actions that happen after an install; e.g. “registration”, “purchase”, “add to cart”.

For a complete list of in-app events supported and their implementation, see Measuring In-App Events with the TUNE SDK or Measuring In-App Events with the TUNE Measurement API.

Getting There

To view a Cohort report in Attribution Analytics, select the appropriate report type from the main navigation.

Saving, Scheduling, & Exporting Reports

After configuring your report, it can look very different from the report defaults. In Attribution Analytics, you can save report settings, schedule recurring exports, and export directly to CSV. These are useful options if you want want to:

  • Share the report with others in your organization using Attribution Analytics.
  • View later in the My Reports section of Attribution Analytics.
  • Receive a recurring comma-separated value (CSV) file export via email.
  • Export your current report view to a CSV file for further processing.

For step-by-step instructions, read our article on Saving, Scheduling & Exporting Your Reports.

Cohort Report Types

We provide several types of cohort reports. Each cohort type displays different data by default, and can display a different set of metrics.

Install Cohort

The Install Cohort report allows you to evaluate the long term behavior – i.e. interaction with your app as measured by in-app events – of your users based on their install cohort.

The report can be modified to show post-install behavior either Incrementally or Cumulatively using a Day, Week or Month time interval.

For more advanced reporting features, click the Configure Report button. In the drawer that appears, you can select options to group data differently (Group By), add or remove columns (Metrics), and filter down displayed data (Filters).

By default, this report loads the following fields:

  • Partner: Name of partner as listed in Attribution Analytics.
  • Installs: Number of installs measured through first-time app opens.
  • Events Day 1 – Events Day 8: Number of post-install events.

For a full list of the fields available for report configuration, please see our Report Field Reference.

By default, this report loads the following settings:

  • Values – Incremental: Data is displayed as it’s measured during the specified interval of day/week/month as a rate of change over time.
  • Interval – Day: Data is displayed on a daily interval; Events Day 1 – Events Day 8.

Reinstall Cohort

The Reinstall Cohort report allows you to evaluate the long term behavior – i.e. interaction with your app as measured by in-app events – of your users based on their reinstall cohort.

The report can be modified to cohort on Reinstalls or Installs, showing Opens, Opens per Reinstall, Events, Events per Reinstall, Purchases, Revenue USD and Revenue USD per Reinstall, by Day, Week or Month.

  • Reinstalls: Number of reinstalls as measured by Google, Apple and TUNE.
    • NOTE: Android and Apple Search Ad reinstall data is pulled directly from Google and Apple. All other reinstall data is approximated by TUNE.
  • Events: Number of post-install events.
  • Day 1 – Day 8: Number of post-install events on each day.

For a full list of the fields available for report configuration, please see our Report Field Reference.

By default, this report loads the following settings:

  • Cohort on – Reinstall: Subsequent post-install activity is displayed based on the reinstall cohort.
  • Show – Events: The total number of all post-install activity.
  • By – Day: Data is displayed on a daily interval; Events Day 1 – Events Day 8.
