Chartboost Integration

When running Chartboost campaigns, you have three campaign types to choose from: Cost Per Click (CPC), S2S Tracking and Cost Per Install (CPI).  Each campaign type has different requirements for achieving successful conversion measurement.

Chartboost Integration Requirements by Campaign Type

  • Cost Per Install
    • Both the TUNE SDK and the Chartboost SDK v3.0.7+ with IFA collection method
    • Attribution Analytics TUNE link for Chartboost Callbacks
    • Attribution Analytics postbacks not needed (in-app event postbacks optional)
  • S2S Tracking
    • Only the TUNE SDK
    • Attribution Analytics TUNE link for Chartboost Callbacks
    • Attribution Analytics postbacks – for the install event (in-app event postbacks optional)
  • Cost Per Click
    • Only the TUNE SDK
    • Attribution Analytics TUNE link for Chartboost Callbacks
    • Attribution Analytics postbacks not needed (in-app event postbacks optional)

Chartboost Cost Per Install (CPI)

When a user clicks on a Chartboost advertisement, they’re sent directly to the App store without being redirected through our servers. Simultaneously, Chartboost notifies your Attribution Analytics account of the click they measured using their servers.

When the user downloads and opens the app for the first time, both the TUNE SDK and Chartboost SDK measures an install independently. After Chartboost measures the install, they notify your Attribution Analytics account of the install. By this time, Attribution Analytics has already processed the install request from our SDK.

We take the install request from Chartboost and match it against our own install logs. If the install isn’t already attributed to another publisher, then we’ll attribute the install to Chartboost. It’s possible that Attribution Analytics attributes fewer installs to Chartboost than Chartboost does to itself if Attribution Analytics found a later click and therefore attributed the install to a different advertising partner.

For more detailed information on reconciling Attribution Analytics reports with Chartboost, please see Chartboost Reconciliation.

S2S Tracking

When a user clicks on a Chartboost advertisement, they’re sent directly to the App store without being redirected through our servers. Simultaneously, Chartboost notifies your Attribution Analytics account of the click they measured using their servers.

When the user downloads and opens the app for the first time, the TUNE SDK measures an install. If the Chartboost ad click is the last click associated with that install, we attribute the install to Chartboost.

Attribution Analytics notifies your Chartboost account every time an install has been attributed to Chartboost.

Chartboost Cost Per Click (CPC)

When a user clicks on a Chartboost advertisement, they’re first redirected through our servers before being taken to the App store.  This ensures that we can measure the click.

When the user downloads and opens the app for the first time, the TUNE SDK measures an install. If the Chartboost ad click is the last click associated with that install, we attribute the install to Chartboost.

Creating a TUNE link

***Required for all Chartboost Campaign Types***

To attribute clicks and installs to Chartboost, create a TUNE link selecting the Chartboost integration in Attribution Analytics.

  • If necessary, append additional measurement parameters.
  • At the bottom of the page, verify that the TUNE link includes all of your desired measurement parameters, then click Save.

Important: You must email your account manager at Chartboost with the generated TUNE link, so they can set it up as a “Callback” in their admin system.

Setting up a Attribution Analytics Postback URL

***Required for Chartboost S2S Tracking campaigns only***

Install Notifications

To notify Chartboost of installs, set up server postbacks in the Attribution Analytics platform for each app. You can navigate to the Server Postback panel from Partners > Integrations > Chartboost > Postbacks tab > Add Postback URL.

Note: Chartboost requires you to provide your Chartboost App ID and App Signature values for their custom parameters, which you should have access to from their system.

Open Notifications

To notify Chartboost of Opens, set up the postback URL using the “Open” template from the Postback Template drop down (as seen in the above screenshot).

Attributed Data and Reporting

The Chartboost integration attributes installs to clicks with default attribution length of 21 days. The attribution length is also referred to as the lookback window/period. You can set a custom attribution length by clicking Edit Settings when viewing the integration. If you set this to a shorter or longer period without notifying and agreeing with Chartboost, then this will cause reporting discrepancies.

Setting up Chartboost Post-Install Action (PIA) Postbacks

For any of the campaign types discussed above, you can choose to notify Chartboost of in-app events beyond the install. Greater insight into the actions your users take in-app can help partners better optimize their campaigns for you.

In-App Purchase Postback w/ Validation

Set up a Purchase postback to notify Chartboost of in-app purchase events just like you would an install postback. You will be asked to provide your Chartboost App ID and Chartboost App Signature.

Level Tracking Postback

Set up a Level Tracking postback to notify Chartboost of level achieved events. Here, you need to provide some more detail on the event.

Chartboost App ID: Same App ID used for all Chartboost postbacks.

Chartboost API Token: Token provided by Chartboost.

Event Field: ID corresponding to the type of level event in Chartboost (1-5).

Description (optional): Description of the event.
