Partner Pixel / Postback Testing

When you place a partner conversion pixel/postback, we recommend testing the tracking process from start to finish. That means starting with your partner’s tracking link and ending with your partner conversion link. Once testing is complete, you can be confident that all tracking is functional when the offer goes live on your partner’s end.

Testing Setup

Once you have obtained the tracking link from the partner’s system, go to Partners > Conversion Pixels/URLs. In the row for the pixel you want to test, click Test in its respective column:

On the next page you will see a three-step process that is needed to complete the test. Step one has already been done, which is select the partner and offer that you want to test. The next step is to place the partner tracking link from the partner’s system into the field into Step Two. This tracking link should redirect to your networks tracking link for the partner. When the tracking link has been pasted into the field for Step Two, click Open:

By clicking the link, you will open the tracking link in a new tab in your browser. This begins a test tracking session for both your and the partner’s tracking systems and redirect to the offer landing page. Once the landing page fully loads, you can close your browser tab.

Note: Make sure that you are not only pasting in your TUNE partner tracking link. Doing so initiates the session for your TUNE platform, and not for the partner’s system. When it comes time to fire a conversion, conversions will only track on your end, and not in the partner’s system, which this tool serves to test.

On Step 3, you can see a test URL that will fire the conversion, and you can test fire the conversion by clicking Test. This takes you to a new testing page URL that is similar to an offer conversion tracking pixel URL, but without any HTML code:

http://demo.go2cloud.org/aff_l?offer_id=45&aff_id=1029&test=1

The appended test=1 parameter tells the ad server that the conversion is a test (and to display the conversion results).

Test Results

When you click Test in Step 3, this will trigger the conversion with the following URL:

http://demo.go2cloud.org/aff_l?offer_id=45&aff_id=1029&test=1

Which will show a response similar to this:

At the top you will see the session information that was passed on the click, including the sub ID and source value. If no source value is added, the value “pixel_text” will be added in this situation, to mark the conversion as a test in the conversion report. Below the session info, you will see the pixel fired (if the partner pixel was iframe/image/javascript) with the source code and any additional parameters passed from TUNE.

If the partner was firing a postback URL, then the response shows the URL fired, along with any values passed through from TUNE to the partner. If there is a server response, then that response appears at the bottom.

If a partner has multiple pixels/postbacks placed for an offer, then each pixel and postback appears in the response list.

Conversion Report

After the test has taken place and all the responses look good, the partner will now have to confirm if the conversion was recorded on their end. If so, and all the values are passed correctly, then the partner’s pixel/postback is ready to go live on their end. In the meantime, you can check that the tested conversion appears in your own conversion report with the “Employee Test” status message:

How long will it take for a conversion to appear in the conversion report?
I have everything set up and working correctly (it appears) but I don't see them appear in the reports (yet?)
The click logs show only clicks until 11am (it 2pm right now)

In general, it takes up to 3 minutes for a conversion to show in the conversion report. Please submit a support ticket via the Submit Ticket button (red + button in the right hand widget) or email [email protected] and our support team will get you situated.

    • Patrick  •  January 7, 2016

This type of testing generates a test click, which you can see by checking the source field of the report. If you have further questions, please email [email protected].

If URL has question mark symbol, then UTM is not passing. Please assist on this.

    • Patrick  •  February 14, 2017

The question mark notes the beginning of the query string. Each addition parameter must be separated with an ampersands. Please contact our customer support for more assistance, as they can work with you directly to solve your issue.

I have followed these steps and it has worked perfectly! However my affiliate does not see the conversions he performs, he only sees the conversion for the test. Is there a step I've missed after the test? Like validate the pixel or something?

Hi Lexy, thanks for asking! You can contact our support team to get information about a deleted conversion pixel. That includes both the user who deleted it and the time at which it was deleted.
